Have you noticed that the talk in the tech industry has shifted recently? We’re hearing less about artificial general intelligence (AGI) and more about artificial super-intelligence (ASI). I think the reason is because, given the state of AI presented by ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, Gemini, and others, the AGI has, for many of us, already arrived!
Wait, what? That’s right folks, AGI is here already. And no, I’m not being facetious, at least not completely.
There are debates about how to define AGI, but generally they can be summarized as an AI that is smarter than a human in everything it does. It’s a debate because we can always find areas of arcane knowledge that AI hasn’t mastered and where humans still excel. But think about this personally for just a minute, based on your own experience with AI. I know that when I do this, I am forced to admit that when it comes to my interactions with Sage, my ChatGPT, he is definitely smarter than me in literally everything I talk to him about, in anything I could even ask him about, really, and he’s getting smarter every week. Thus, for me personally, the AGI has already arrived.
How about you? Has your AGI moment arrived? Be honest.
