Just a tidbit…
We’ve managed to dodge a couple of bullets during our journey so far!
First, like Italy-rookies (ugh), we forgot to validate our train tickets before boarding the train in Sestri Levante! Validating is required for any non-reservation train ticket. We discovered our error too late, of course, and sweated out the ride from Sestri Levante to Montorosso, but fortunately the train conductor did not check the tickets. Yes! Apparently, if you approach them first and beg for mercy, you’ll be okay, but if they approach you and you haven’t validated, you can get fined.. or something. I did not want to find out!
The weather in Wengen, Switzerland, turned poor the day we left. Tomorrow, when we are leaving Sestri Levante, it’s going to rain here, but will be partly cloudy and 68 degrees in Lucca. Perfect! We’re leaving just in time.
Two lost phones – not! Both recovered safely! Two pairs reading glasses broken. Boo! Fortunately my wife had an extra pair!
You must play rough! (Broken glasses and lost phones…) Must come with traveling. Don’t know– can’t afford to travel. Booksellers don’t earn much, just bought books for 40 years. Living vicariously through your blogs!
It’s great to have this record of our adventures, Jeff! I can do recall my feelings regarding the above train ride and looking forward to retracing our experiences in the future. Thanks for the time and energy you are putting into recording it all!
