I Left My Heart in Lauderbrunnen Valley

Yep, I know, I skipped Monday, the 25th. I’ll cover it in a future post. Right now, I just want to capture today before I forget it. What a wonderful day!

Our plan today was simple and gratefully, carried out to near perfection. We were going to have a leisurely morning and then catch the train to Lauderbrunnen where we would then catch the bus to Trummelbach Falls. Afterwards, we would hike back from Trummelbach Falls (2.5 miles) to Lauterbrunnen, where we would sit down to a drink and a good meal of either meat pie or fondue. We promised ourselves we would eat fondue at least once before leaving Switzerland! Then we’d walk back to our house in Wengen, where we’d chill for the evening.

I have photos of the falls and video (that I need to sort through before using), but neither really does it justice. I’ll post photos and videos later (there’s only so much time in the day). Yes, we’ve all seen waterfalls, but this is the first one I’ve seen from inside a mountain! The attraction includes 200 steps (ugh) that you can choose to walk up or down. We walked them up and down!

Fortunately, the soreness from our first day of hiking was receding quickly, so today’s steps and hike was no problem. Trummelbach Falls was an interesting place to see and I’m glad we did it, but the highlight of today, for me at least, was the hike from the Falls to Lauterbrunnen, along the river.

It’s hard to put into words. Lauterbrunnen Valley, otherwise known as the Valley of 72 Waterfalls, is like a land out of time, a Shagri-la, if you will. The trail is a narrow road, actually, that was extremely easy, with only a few autos and bikes to contend with – oh, and a few cows, too (video forthcoming)!

Everywhere we looked it was one picture-postcard setting after another!

Trying to enjoy our trip, take photos, manage photos and write my blog is a balancing act, which I’m not doing the best at yet. It’d be easier if I didn’t have to shrink photo sizes in order to post on my blog. There’s probably a fix for this, but I have no time to figure it out.

It is so beautiful here!

It seems silly now to repeat the refrain about how much I love Italy, but I can't seem to help it. I really do... love Italy, that is. I could find reasons not to love Italy, if I looked hard enough, In 2009, for example, our first visit to Tuscany resulted in a car...

Our last full-day in Sestri Levante! Thanks to the advice of our hotel manager, Santos, we adjusted our plans today to take a boat ride from the southernmost Cinque Terre town, Riomaggiore, to Portovenere. This spot is only reachable from the north by boat or a 4+hour...

Dodging bullets!

Just a tidbit... We've managed to dodge a couple of bullets during our journey so far! First, like Italy-rookies (ugh), we forgot to validate our train tickets before boarding the train in Sestri Levante! Validating is required for any non-reservation train ticket. We...
